Volunteer of The Month

BEV GAY – Marlborough

The following shows the value of Bev Gay to the Marlborough Bridge Club. It seems that Bev knows everything about Marlborough Bridge Club and shares her knowledge. She is also passionate about bridge, the players and the region. What follows is just a sample of Bev’s value to the club.

Bev is a silent behind the scenes worker. She notices things that need attending to whether it be sharpening pencils; cleaning the Bridge pads; washing the cloths and ensuring the tables are neat and tidy and ready for a Bridge session regardless of whether she is directing or not. Bev is also a member of the Dealing Team for our Club and the Picton Club.

She has had the responsibility of buying the biscuits; washing all the containers and keeping up with supplies needed for the smooth running of the Kitchen. Bev also presents super raffle prizes when a local tournament is held.

With a nice smile, Bev (left) receives her Volunteer of the Month Certificate
and flowers from Jane Jordan on behalf of the Marlborough Bridge Club and New
Zealand Bridge.

She directs with a calm controlled neutral persona and the members respect her for decisions.

We enjoy a delicious afternoon tea on the first Friday of the Month when we play a Teams Competition. Easter; Queen’s Birthday and Christmas allow Bev to extend her sense of fun and she makes an extra effort on these special days. Tiaras and other bling are often worn on appropriate occasions.

Bev does not seek public accolades for her commitment. So many at the Marlborough Bridge Club believe she deserves recognition for her tireless work both as a committee member, director and club member.

Indeed, and Bev duly receives that recognition as New Zealand Bridge’s Volunteer of the Month for November 2018.
