Event Eligibility

Accommodation in the Bay in February

Accommodation options in February are plentiful. It is outside school holidays and so there remains a lot of different levels of accommodation available at this stage at the Mount and in Tauranga.

Twin Towers.jpg

A quick google on Air BNB looking for accommodation for 4 guests turns up over 300 options with the cheapest at $120 per night for two bedrooms ranging upwards to as much as you want to spend!   Mount Maunganui · Stays · Airbnb

From hotels and motels to serviced apartments, there is plenty of options for those who want to stay individually or as a group.    And at the cheaper end of the market are cabins at holiday parks and backpackers which could be preferable if you are looking for budget accommodation.   There is also the opportunity to park your motor home at the venue if there is enough demand.

We did not have enough demand for the end of September period to make the motor caravan option work. Bay Park insists on a nightly security guard if campervanners stay and that cost is passed on to the users. So, if you are interested in this option, let us know early, and how many nights, and we will see if we can make this work for you.

Finally, remember to check when booking on the covid cancellation clause wherever you stay…. Just in case.

National Rubber Bridge Competition Finals

We will advise the 8 pairs concerned about this before the end of this week.

Car hire

Don’t forget that Apex Car Hire are one of our sponsors and they have already amended their website for the new Congress dates. 15% discount wherever Congress registrants hire or return their car during the Congress period.

Those who have already booked through Apex for the September period can now cancel and rebook.

The code for bridge players for their website is APXBRIDGE. When you go on the Apex website “enter code” is centre front. Their website address is www.apexrentals.co.nz

Further Information

We will be updating the Congress parts of the New Zealand Bridge website in the next 2-3 days. Perhaps, the most important point re the programme to be aware of is that the week will start with the New Zealand Open and Restricted Open Teams and will conclude with the New Zealand Open and Restricted Open Pairs.

The Intermediate, Junior and Novice events will take place over the weekend period (Saturday to Monday), one reason for the change of format.

We had already over 500 registrations for the September Congress. We hope to have that number and many more in the sunny Bay in February. What about you?
