Volunteer of the Month - September 2021
Page Lawson Akaroa Bridge Club
The following nomination was forwarded by Jeanette Elliott, Akaroa Bridge Club President, on behalf of the club committee and all club members.
"Page Lawson learned bridge in Akaroa in 2009 and quickly grasped the basics of the game. When we found out about her IT background, we let her loose on the computer scoring ! When we shifted to Compass, Page spent many hours getting familiar with all the menu options and helped develop new functions. When the club decided to get tablets, Page did all the research into the best equipment, and then spent many hours with Bob Fearn getting the tablets to communicate with Compass, setting up licenses, automating results, masterpoints, and X-Club. Akaroa as a small country club would not have its technology at the stage it now is, without Page having taken responsibility to drive it along, sort problems and educate the players. Page has created documentation folders for each scorer, and personally tutors them to get us all comfortable with using Compass and the tablets. She’s always on hand at the start and end of the night to make sure all the corrections and amendments are resolved.

Page also arranges all the dealing of boards, often dealing herself. She oversees the player masterpoints, handicaps, membership NZB numbers, nametags, website, and club handbook. Page served on the Committee for a few years and taught Beginners’ lessons for a couple of years. All with great enthusiasm, diligence and affection. We would like to recognise Page Lawson’s efforts as a volunteer for the Akaroa Bridge Club.
The Akaroa Bridge Club wishes to thank NZ Bridge for the opportunity to recognise Page for the invaluable contribution she makes to the efficient operation of our club. The gift comprised local cheeses, crackers and honey."
