Eligibilty - Age Criteria for Youth and Senior Events

NZ Bridge has adopted the World Bridge Federation eligibility criteria for participating in Senior and Youth Events as follows:

Senior Events

On the 19th August 2017, the World Bridge Federation Executive Council decided to raise the age requirement for Senior players to 65 over the next 8 years in accordance with the following schedule:

  • Thus from 1st January 2018, a Senior player must be aged 61 or older in the year of the Championship in which they are going to play
  • On 1st January 2020, this will be raised to 62 years of age
  • On 1st January 2022, it will be raised to 63 years of age
  • On 1st January 2024, it will be raised to 64 years of age
  • On 1st January 2026, it will be raised to 65 years of age

The above means that you qualify for a Senior event in New Zealand in 2020 if at any time during this year, you are at least 62 years of age (or, of course, older). The same applies to events in 2021.
