An Easy Bid?

Is it? What do you reckon?

You are West and hear the following:

West           North         East      South

                                      1Heart-small          2Spade-small (weak)

?

You hold:

Spade-small AJ

Heart-small 2

Diamond-small KJ982

Club-small AQ652

You are playing Teams and only E/W are vulnerable.

(3 of a minor is forcing)

Oh this hand! I knew as soon as I doubled that was wrong, not that we play support doubles but how on earth you get your minors across after that when everything will sound like either keycard in hearts or a cue agreeing hearts! After double it went the predictable 3S, now partner could of bid 4C but unfortunately rebid her nice 6 card heart suit which was understandable - that is the problem with double!

3C is the bid, leaves room to bid diamonds later, if you bid 3D it is impossible for partner to bid clubs if they have them.

Interesting, Steph. I got told that double was better than my 3D bid. I suffered the 3S interference too and then 4H from partner. At least I could have bid 5C now. I agree 3C is a good bid if the opponents promise to stay quiet but they are very bad at keeping their promise!

    And say they bid 4S?

I hate double and am not sure it would have got us any further towards slam. After 3D, Iwould have bid 5C over 4S but partner's 4H bid was a bit off-putting.
